Boys In The Picture (Smoky Mountains Sessions) - Conner Smith

Thought we were ten feet tall
Sitting on that riverbank
Taking pulls from a bottle of Jack
Out a paper sack and the limestone shade
Hell, we were thick as thieves
Snapshot of a memory froze
Cam's tattoo he hates now
He was making sure to show

Head start on twenty-one
Too smart to know we were too damn young
We hated every cig we smoked
But we sure loved the buzz of 'em
Innocence still left to lose
Got a three-by-five to prove
How we learned not to drink beer before liquor
Red dirt was gold, yeah, we were those up-to-no
Good ol' boys in the picture

I don't remember how it was taken
Or where I found it sitting here today
All I know is it took me back
To an old six-pack out a Chevrolet
One of our hearts is broken
Another just made it all around the bases
Bet you could tell which one
By looking at our faces

Head start on twenty-one
Too smart to know we were too damn young
We hated every cig we smoked
But we sure loved the buzz of 'em
Innocence still left to lose
Got a three-by-five to prove
Back when all those dreams were dreaming bigger
Red dirt was gold, yeah, we were those up-to-no
Good ol' boys in the picture
Boys in the picture

They say one is worth a thousand words
There's sure some I'm glad nobody heard

Head start on twenty-one
Too smart to know we were too damn young
We hated every cig we smoked
But we sure loved the buzz of 'em
Innocence still left to lose
Got a three-by-five to prove
Time goes by, but I'll always remember
When red dirt was gold, yeah, we were those up-to-no
Good ol' boys in the picture
